Ski touring paradise Gastein

In the last few years ski touring and ski mountaineering in Gastein has gained more and more in popularity. No wonder! What an experience to hike silently on your skis through woods and meadows covered in deep snow and then enjoy a deep snow descent.

For the less experienced there are plenty of tours where the descent takes you down a prepared piste. The winter wonderland Gastein in the province of Salzburg is well signposted for ski touring. Away from the slopes you rely on your muscles rather than the gondola. Along the routes or at the end of your destination there are always huts inviting you to a well-deserved rest and a “Gipfelschnapserl”. You will get your money’s worth during your winter holiday in Gastein.

From easy to highalpine

Experienced touring skiers find Gastein a real insider’s tip. It is best to plan your tour with a mountain guide who will take you to the most beautiful places high up on the Gastein peaks. Here you will often find untouched slopes and descents in a class of their own.

Skitour to the Jungeralm

This tour begins in the fantastic Angertal, starting point is the parking area of the ski centre. Easy skiing along the ski run towards the end of the valley, passing the Waldgasthof to a junction after 200 m where we take a left turn. Through woods and meadows, a gentle four kilometres and 500 altitude metres to the Jungeralm. Back down on the official ski slope.

Swiss pine trek up the Graukogel

The Swiss pine trek up the Graukogel (starting at the mid station) is a very special ski tour. The path winds its way up through an old Swiss pine forest. Alternatively, one can choose to hike up along the steeper route which is then also used for the downhill return. It is more romantic to go up through the woods, though. 1,5 km and 500 altitude metres.
